My Perfect Picture Art Gallery

What We Accomplished This Week
This week, we hosted our art gallery in the Seabury Conference Center. After many months of planning, the gallery was here and is now over. We had 74 of our photos displayed, as well as some snacks and refreshments available. We still have a few more checks being written, but at the gallery, we profited $377 out of the $560 we received. Once we have the rest of the checks written, we will calculate the final profit from sold photographs and that will be the amount we send to CREMA Coffee for them to match.

What Are We Working On Now
Currently, Julia and I (Macey) are calculating the total profit and deciding on a date to go to and donate the money to East Nashville Hope Exchange. Also, we are in the process of ordering the photos that people have already purchased at the art gallery.

What We Plan To Do Next
Once all of the photos have came in, we will be hand-delivering them to those who ordered our photographs. Also, after the money has been donated to East Nashville Hope Exchange, we will begin working on our ted talk. In our ted talk, we will present an overview of our project, what went well, and what we could have done better.

One More Week!

What We Accomplished This Week
Julia and I (Macey) had a very successful week. We printed all of our ordering sheets and have gotten our photos together and are labeled. We also put up several of our flyers around school to promote our gallery this upcoming Wednesday. We emailed Mrs. Huff and Mrs. Murphy and asked them to help us create our online art gallery. We plan to have our finishing touches done in time for the gallery.

What We Are Working On Now
Right now, we are working on putting the finishing touches for our gallery on Wednesday March 15th. We still need to get together to get the refreshments and snacks for the gallery. We also need to finish the info cards about each photograph as well as the brochure about East Nashville Hope Exchange. Julia and I (Macey) are still waiting on more people to volunteer for helping clean-up, set-up, and be there during the galley. If you are interested in helping, please contact Julia or I (Macey).

What We Plan To Do Next
Julia and I (Macey) are hosting our gallery Wednesday, March 15th from 5:30-7:00pm in the Seabury Conference Center
. After the gallery, we plan to contact CREMA Coffee and tell them how much we raised. This is because towards the beginning of this project when we were trying to find a location, they offered to generously match our donations up to $500.

Save The Date!

What We Accomplished This Week
Macey and I (Julia) had a very successful week. First, all of our 8x10 glossy prints came in. When we got together to choose which of our photos we wanted to be in the art gallery, we narrowed it down to 68 photos. Also, Mr. Stabler informed us that we have been approved to use the South Campus Conference Center (SCC) for our art gallery. However, the gallery will be strictly limited to the FRA community. We have decided the art gallery will be held from 5:30pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday March 15th in the SCC! Earlier in the week, Macey and I (Julia) met with Mrs. Huff to get her opinion on how we should promote the gallery. Macey and I have already completed the flyer, but are not sure on what we will do next. We also met with Mrs. Thornton to discuss the layout of the gallery along with what food and refreshments we should have present. She helped us so much with these decisions. From her own experience, she suggested we serve cookies, cheese and crackers, and grapes for the snacks, along with water for the drinks.

What We Are Working On Now
Right now, Macey and I (Julia) are in the process of setting up an online version of our art gallery. Since our gallery is scheduled to be during the week of Interim, there will be a great number of students and teachers who will be out of town. We hope the option of purchasing photographs through a website will allow those who are out of town to contribute to our goal of $500. Macey and I (Julia) are also in the process of putting together a brochure containing more information about East Nashville Hope Exchange, so people know where their money will be going and for what purpose.

What We Plan To Do Next
Next week, Macey and I (Julia) will print a number of flyers and put them up around campus. We also need to get in contact with the maintenance crew since we do not have the ability to move tables and big black boards into the SCC. We have also finished our flyers and hope to get them around campus really soon. Now, we will need as many volunteers as we can get to help us setup and cleanup the gallery, as well as handing out brochures while greeting people at the door. Also, we would love to have live music playing to make the scene more enjoyable for everyone. All of these students will receive service hours. If you are interested in any of this, please let Macey or I (Julia) know by the end of next week so we can discuss when everyone needs to be at school to help. For those who just wish to attend, feel free to come and go as you please. We hope to see all of you there!

A Lot In A Short Week

What We Accomplished This Week
This week was a little bit less stressful for Julia and I (Macey). It was an easier week because we accomplished many things. On Tuesday, when we had the day off of school, Julia and I (Macey) met up with each other to discuss our pictures, the pricing of our pictures and the ordering sheets. We both ordered our pictures of off (http://www.nationsphotolab.com) and all the photos have shipped. Julia and I (Macey) ordered them in 8x10’s. Those pictures will be the ones that will go on display in our art gallery. Also, we finalized the prices of each size photograph. They range anywhere from $8 to $40 depending on the size of picture you desire. With those prices, it has allowed us to correct and finish the ordering sheets.

What We Are Working On Now
Currently, Julia and I (Macey) are working on so many things since the due date is approaching. We are creating a list of food and beverages that we think should be served at our gallery. Julia and I (Macey) emailed Mrs. Huff to see if we could have a few students help us set up and clean up the art gallery, as well as a few students who’d be willing to play live music throughout the gallery. Those students willing to help will receive service hours. We also contacted Mrs. Thornton about the layout of the gallery and have scheduled to meet with her next week. So, we are beginning to lay out an idea for how we want the gallery to look like, but want to hear her opinion before making any final decisions.

What We Plan To Do Next
Once we have our idea for the layout of the gallery. We plan to meet with Mrs. Thornton to discuss about that on Thursday during tutorial. Also, we plan to create info cards about all the pictures with info such as the location of where it was taken, who it was taken by, and the name of the photograph. We also plan on meeting with Mr. Stabler about the date, time, and location of the art gallery.

Meetings, Meetings, And More Meetings

What We Accomplished This Week
This week was a stressful week for Macey and I (Julia) as we realized just how quickly the deadline for our Genius Hour project is approaching. Unfortunately, I chose to cancel our meeting with our mentor Billi-Cate last weekend due to the load of homework we were given. On the other hand, we met with Mr. Stabler, our Upper School Dean, again today to discuss additional details relating to our art gallery. As of right now, Macey and I (Julia) still hope to hold it on our school’s campus, but may change the date to sometime between March 11th and 16th.

What We Are Working On Now
Fortunately, Macey and I (Julia) have a four-day weekend starting tomorrow. Since we have off Monday for Presidents’ Day and Tuesday for our Winter Break, we plan to get together and discuss further details for the gallery. First, we will continue and finish choosing the photos we believe will have the most success in our gallery, and print them in 8x10s for the display. Second, we will create an idea for how we want to setup and cleanup the gallery, as well as the list of refreshments we plan to provide. With this, we will need to contact students who will be willing to help us with these tasks throughout the gallery.

What We Plan To Do Next
Next week, Macey and I (Julia) will contact our art teacher, Mrs. Thornton, and set up a time to meet with her and get her input on how we plan to set up the gallery. Later in the week, we will check in with Mr. Stabler again. We will share our setup and cleanup schedule with him, as well as our list of refreshments. Also, we hope to have a set date and time for the art gallery depending on if we get the approval to hold it at the South Campus Conference Center (SCC) or not. If Macey and I (Julia) are unable to use the SCC, we will then request to use our school library. Once we establish this, we will print out and hang up flyers to promote our gallery.

Planning Ahead

What We Accomplished This Week
This week, Julia and I (Macey) have done many things to make this project start to come together. We finished making our shipping info sheets which includes their full name, the shipping address, the photograph, the amount of photographs, size and an option to make additional donations to East Nashville Hope Exchange. Also, both Julia and I (Macey) have gone through and selected some of the photographs we want to use in the gallery.

What We Are Working On Now
As of right now, Julia and I (Macey) are working on making the finishing touches on our flyers. That includes us emailing or meeting Mr. Stabler and confirming that we are able to use the South Campus Conference Center for the gallery. Also, on February 11th, we are meeting with our mentor Billi-Cate to learn about some techniques we may not have used in our photography. We also are trying to figure out what price should go with what size of photograph depending on if they want a matte or glossy photograph.

What We Plan To Do Next
In the coming weeks, Julia and I (Macey) plan on finishing the flyers. However, we still need to confirm a date and time for the art gallery with will be difficult with our busy schedules. Once we are done with the flyers, Julia and I (Macey) will go spread them throughout Nashville in hopes of getting many people to show up to the gallery.

Making Progress

What We Accomplished This Week
Over this past week, Macey and I (Julia) focused on completing our flyers to advertise our art gallery coming up. We also put together a short video blog of us answering three key questions that we hope will help our readers understand how and why we created My Perfect Picture, and what it means to us. I also contacted our mentor Billi-Cate and scheduled to get together the weekend of February 24th and 25th. This will be a great time for Macey and I (Julia) to learn a few new things about photography, as well as collecting more photos to display in our gallery.

What We Are Working On Now
Right now, Macey and I (Julia) are currently still working on completing the ordering sheets for those who attend our galley and would like to purchase one or more of our pieces displayed. These sheets will allow us to handle our attendee’s purchases and donations in an organized fashion.

What We Plan To Do Next
Next, either Macey or I (Julia) will get in contact with Mr. Stabler to see if we have been approved to rent out the South Campus Conference Center for our art gallery. In case our request is declined, we will need to reach out to other potential places we would like to host our event. Within the next week or two, Macey and I will set up a time to go through the photos we have taken for the gallery, and eliminate our least favorites. Not only will this process narrow down the number of pieces ready to be displayed, but will also give us an idea of what needed themes we should focus on while meeting with Billi-Cate soon.
